Inspired by the beautiful backdrop of the Columbia and Washougal rivers, the lush green of the Gorge and the majesty of Mt. Hood, The Highlander is a perfect marriage of an Old World Scottish Manor with modern designs of the Pacific Northwest. This year’s entry for Clark & Son Homes, LLC showcases their 30-plus years of building experience. “All homes are built out of familiar materials, but how each builder puts them together is what makes them unique,” said Jerry Clark, owner of Clark & Son Homes, LLC. “The Highlander is a perfect example of how a custom home can reflect the personality of the homeowner, building in unique elements that compliment their lifestyle.”
As you enter the home you are welcomed by inviting arched openings and a beautiful staircase featuring custom forged iron and craftsman quality wood finishes. From the entry you will have an unobstructed view of the Columbia River Gorge, Crown Point and Mt. Hood. Hand crafted built-in artwork and faux finishes grace the spacious living area. The great and dining rooms share a peninsula fireplace, built-in custom entertainment center, and hard wired surround sound. They are perfect for casual living or entertaining. The kitchen is the chef’s dream with custom knotty alder cabinets, Bosch appliances and a large slab granite island. Enjoy casual dining in the cozy nook, or host an informal barbecue on the large partially covered deck. The flexible floor plan offers every day conveniences that complete the main level. These rooms include a den, laundry, powder room, insulated environmentally controlled wine closet and a large walk-in kitchen pantry. A plush master suite is located on the second floor. A performance rated sliding patio door opens to a sitting balcony off the bedroom area. Relax and enjoy the double-sided fireplace and the awe-inspiring view or soak in the jetted Jacuzzi spa tub. The master bath is hard wired for cable T.V. and features a walk-in tile shower with a custom designed glass door. A large walk-in closet is filled with custom built shelving. The second bedroom doubles as a multi use media room. During the Parade it will demonstrate a featured projection TV with a 92” screen. The room is hard wired for surround sound, cable and telephone. A cozy window seat reading nook provides an “away space” and a tiny playroom will entertain the youngest family members. Down the hall is an additional large bedroom with exciting built-ins and another charming window seat overlooking the valley. The Highlander’s exterior employs “Castia Stone” that was custom made for the home. The home is insulated with open celled soy based foam that is environmentally friendly, allergy safe, mold resistant and cuts energy costs. A double-deep two or three-car garage can also house a workshop and workbench.
Special attention has been paid to utilize skilled craftsmen and quality products that the Clarks have learned perform well for decades. Beyond the typical one year builder’s warranty, Clark & Son Homes, LLC offers the “2-10 Plus Extended Warranty Plan” which protects homeowners against unexpected repair and replacement costs for systems and appliances for up to five years on covered items.

| THE BUILDER |
Dale L. Clark began building homes in 1972. He was joined by his son, Jerry W. Clark in 1978, after earning his degree in business at the University of Portland, and gaining valuable business experience in the commercial and residential construction industry.
Dale retired from the business in 1997. Jerry and his wife, Denise, have carried on the family business and have been fortunate to have four sons working for the company at various times as well. This is Clark & Son Homes, LLC’s second year of participation in the Parade, and Jerry Clark is currently serving as president of the Building Industry Association of Clark County (BIA).
“As Clark & Son Construction, Inc., we have done a wide variety of commercial and residential projects, subcontracting framing and siding installation. We have worked as general contractors on churches, warehouses, and a variety of commercial remodeling projects,” said Jerry Clark.
Larry W. Smith of Windermere/Stellar Group Real Estate commented that, “Clark & Son Homes, LLC has been building superior quality homes in Clark County for over 32 years. (They) refuse to compromise quality in the construction of (their) homes and take great pride in creating truly livable, fully functional living spaces that will last for generations.” Smith was also instrumental in the design of this particular home, and has been intensely involved in the design and marketing of all of Clark’s products for over fifteen years.
“We specialize in customizing stock plans to bring a product to the market that has the flavor and feel of an individually designed custom home. We approach each home with a pride of ownership perspective. We build custom homes on a case by case basis. As a result, we have a wide range of experience in home styles (arts & crafts; Northwest contemporary; traditional; prairie farmhouse and builder’s style) included in our portfolio,” said Clark.
Clark & Son Homes, LLC utilizes only the best subcontractors and tradesmen available in Clark County, most of whom have been associated with the Clarks for many years.
“We operate under the mandate of full disclosure of all cost elements in building our homes,” said Clark. “We do business with integrity, and stand behind our product and sub-contractors. We provide a Home Buyer’s Warranty 2-10 on all of our homes.”
“Our company operates with a minimal overhead and strives diligently to exceed our customer’s expectations,” he continued. “As one of the oldest homebuilders in Clark County, we take pride in the fact that our homes add beauty and livability to our hometown. We specialize in customer service, and a sensitive attention to detail. During the construction process, whether a custom home, or a spec home, we employ a full time superintendent to oversee all aspects of that construction. Our Residential Superintendent, Gerald Watkins, has been with the company for over 16 years. With his assistance we have the ability to be readily accessible to our customers and subcontractors before, during, and after the construction of a home.” |
