A Longview man was injured Tuesday in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 one mile south of Woodland. The crash backed up northbound traffic for about an hour.
Walter J. Bischoff, 51, suffered a left arm injury, according to a bulletin from the Washington State Patrol.
Tuesday evening, Bischoff was listed in satisfactory condition at Southwest Washington Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said. Two other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals as a precaution.
The WSP bulletin gave this account of the crash:
About 3 p.m., a Coquille, Ore., woman was driving a 2007 Honda Accord north when it hit metal debris in the center lane. That flattened her right-front tire and she stopped in the center lane.
A 2004 Volvo driven by a Canby, Ore., woman stopped behind the Honda, and a 1994 Mazda pickup driven by a Longview man stopped behind the Volvo.
That’s when Bischoff, driving a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup, crashed into the rear of the Mazda, pushing it into the Volvo.
The Ford pickup then rolled several times and stopped in the left lane with Bischoff trapped inside.
Bischoff was ticketed for following too close.
