Columbia River Miracle League, a baseball league for disabled children and adults, is seeking volunteers to serve as coaches and to assist players during its fall season. Hazel Dell Metro Babe Ruth registration — Three opportunities to register for next spring's Babe Ruth Baseball season have been scheduled. They will be held at the Hazel Dell Metro clubhouse at the varsity baseball field at Columbia River High School. The registration will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 18, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. Divisions of play are for ages 14-15, age 13, and ages 11-12 (new in 2009, 70-foot bases). Birth certificate required to register. Cost: $400, can be offset by fundraising. Evergreen 14U Baseball — Team looking for eighth-grade boys who will attend Evergreen High School in fall 2009 to form a Senior Federal JBO team for spring 2009.  The team will hold fall clinics with current EHS players, winter workouts and a 50-70 game schedule in 2009. Next workout is 2:45-5 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the EHS baseball field. Youth Basketball League for grades 1-2.  The deadline to sign up is Oct. 10.  Individual and Team registrations are accepted. Games are played on six Saturdays beginning Nov. 1, with no games on Nov. 29.  There is a 45-minute practice followed by a 45-minute game. 27th Great Columbia Crossing — 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, Port of Astoria, Ore.  Walk or race across the Astoria Bridge. Note: Shuttles to the starting area are available from 7-8 a.m. on race day. Cost: Adult registration is $25 before Oct.1 and $30 after. Ages 8-18 can race for $15. Entry fees include parking, a shuttle bus ride to the starting line and a clam chowder lunch. Lewisville Park Walk — On Sunday, Oct. 12 the All Weather Walkers will hold a 5- or 10-kilometer volkswalk through Lewisville Regional Park, north of Battle Ground at 26411 NW Lewisville Highway (SR 503). A volkswalk is a free, non-competitive, marked route that promotes health, recreation, fellowship and fun – and is an activity the entire family can enjoy together. The route is entirely within the park, which is located along the East Fork of the Lewis River. Volunteers will be at the registration area at the Central Park Shelter. Set your own pace – start between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., and be off the trail by 4 p.m. The distance is 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), but a shorter 3 mile route is also offered for those with limited time or fitness restrictions. All Weather Walkers is a non-profit walking club based in Vancouver. At all club-sponsored events, eyeglasses and hearing aids are collected for the local Lions Club, as well as old cellular phones and chargers, which are formatted and reprogrammed to dial 911, for the Wireless Foundation’s "Call To Protect" program.
