Myrick defeats Taylor in NC's 9th District

Tuesday, November 4 | 7:01 p.m.

The Associated Press

Republican Rep. Sue Myrick has defeated Democratic challenger Harry Taylor to retain her seat in North Carolina's 9th Congressional District.

The Associated Press called the race for Myrick based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for the AP by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.

The district encompasses Charlotte, the state's largest city, and its surrounding communities.

The 67-year-old Myrick won her eighth term after campaigning in favor of a flat income tax rate, immigration reform and an overhaul of the No Child Left Behind Act.

The 63-year-old Taylor is a Charlotte real estate broker and longtime environmentalist who campaigned on raising teacher salaries and fixing the No Child Left Behind Act.
