is it 10 or 11 people? added up its 11 but they say 10by C. Brown : 12/13/08 8:37pm - Report Abuse
Gee, think of all the money we could save on investigations if we just recognized that the Columbian bloggers always know the answers well before the police do. Oh wait.. maybe, just maybe, running into someone who pulls out right in front of you on a busy state highway wasn't caused by driving too fast, following too close, talking on cell phone or all three.by M Johnson : 12/13/08 8:42pm - Report Abuse
Yes according to the story you are right C. Brown. Sorry. It's just that I get so very very annoyed at the "rush rush rush" and "chat chat chat" driving culture we have these days. About this situation, according to the story, yes, you are right. My bad.by C. Brown : 12/13/08 8:51pm - Report Abuse
Thanks... I do, however, have to agree that the "chat chat chat" driving culture grows more frightening by the day. This afternoon I watched a driver get into their car, open and dial their phone, and immediately back into a car driving by behind them.by Mark Hatfield : 12/13/08 9:12pm - Report Abuse
What gets me is the people (usually younger than 25) steering with their knees so they can text while driving! Wearing cell phone headsets does nothing to address that phenomenon. If it isn't one thing, it's another.by NFL FAN : 12/13/08 9:53pm - Report Abuse
This was a failure to YIELD. I drive this intersection every day, it's safe, someone must have been in a hurry to leave the store. I hope everyone recovers fully and that the our great law enforcement issues some tickets.by Bob Smith : 12/13/08 10:15pm - Report Abuse
Yielding has nothing to do with it if the car coming was exceeding the speed limit. Ive seen so many cars fly by that place. Think about it. It is a country road.by storm team : 12/13/08 10:37pm - Report Abuse
bob simmer down...take a deep breath. wheres it say 10? and besides who cares about a possible typo? do you? here focuss on theeese topyoposby s douglas : 12/13/08 10:53pm - Report Abuse
Law Enforcement? I never see any.....just idiots on their cell phones, which is illegal by the way. People slow down and pay attention to what the hell you're doing when you are driving!by Union Titan : 12/13/08 10:55pm - Report Abuse
listen the speed limit through there is 50mph so perhaps the speed limit is too high stop pulling out in front of people and this kind of thing wont happen.by P Thomas : 12/13/08 11:08pm - Report Abuse
No the article clearly sticks with 11. I agree that the math doesn't matter. I hope everyone makes it through ok and that whatever happened was an error and a lesson was learned. I agree re the cell phones...everyone who knows me, knows that I will call them back when I get pulled off the road. Scares me sometimes out there ya know?by Chris Rust : 12/14/08 12:35am - Report Abuse
Here's hoping the recoveries are as quick as the collision that caused them... however many there are, with or without phones.by LC Borden : 12/14/08 12:38am - Report Abuse
Hi all. This is the first time i've "commented" on a story in the Columbian. I live within sight of the Creekside Market. I've been visiting that store since i was 3 years old. There was a time when you could live in the Proebstel area and actually walk, scooter, and skip rope on the side of 4th Plain Rd, on your way to that little store on the bank of Lacamas Creek, and be safe. But.. i'm "old" and i have 50 year old memories. It is a country road. And I really think that the speed limit should be 40 miles per hour all the way to 199th (heading east)... There are so many people that aren't familiar with "country roads" driving in this county anymore. Or would all you prefer 30 mph? Because when i was a kid, very rarely, on that stretch of "road",.. or state highway... State HIGHWAY??? Are you kidding me?? In 1960 no one drove much faster then that... why should they?, life wasn't such a big hurry. And actually, we could walk from 65th to the "market" and sometimes never EVEN see a car. While i'm at it, I'll add to the "discussion"... NO ONE is so capable of "multitasking" that they can put on mascara (and/or shave), read the morning paper, eat their oatmeal, text their "peeps", listen to the newest Cd, and read their GPS to see where they are going next... TO ACTUALLY DRIVE!! This is just one womans opinion. :)by CL User : 12/14/08 2:22am - Report Abuse
with newer cars some have too much multi-tasking involved just to drive. One of the reasons i am getting rid of mine is how difficult it is to try and do the climate control, no more german engineering for me, Audi just appears to see how much stuff they can throw in there to force you to take you eyes off the road so they can see how safe their cars are in accidentsby curtis hutcherson : 12/14/08 7:12am - Report Abuse
how much do you want for your audi, and what year/model is it?by St Jimmy : 12/14/08 8:51am - Report Abuse
Hmm Maybe they should add a stoplight to this ever so dangerous blind intersection, just a thought.by C. Brown : 12/14/08 8:56am - Report Abuse
Yes, that section of road is considered a state highway. It's part of SR500.by Barbara Williams : 12/14/08 9:13am - Report Abuse
I was about the 4th car behind this accident. There did not seem to be any cell phones in use. It's difficult to know if excess speed was involved. It was clear that the white Honda had failed to yield, as reported, and that the black Eclipse had clipped it, and then crossed over into the red Carolla. It was a horrible scene, with people down on the ground in the cold windy rain, others milling about trying to find a way away from the scene (even the locals didn't seem to know how), and bloody people everywhere. I left a blanket for the victims and left so that the emergency workers could get to the scene. There is a blind curve and this was clearly the fault of the person pulling out of the market. I hope those folks will recover, it was a terrible scene.by s douglas : 12/14/08 10:31am - Report Abuse
The person who pulled out onto the road from the market that caused this accident should be thrown into jail!by Shadow Warrior : 12/14/08 12:17pm - Report Abuse
It's not an uncommon occurrence in that area to have some jackass pull out in front of you. Everyone is in a hurry and no one gives right of way any more.by Bob Smith : 12/14/08 12:43pm - Report Abuse
Well according to a witness, the white car did yield and the eclipse was going very very fast. You guys dont even know the whole story, yet you are commenting on something that a state trooper said before HE even got the whole story as well as what a lame writer for the Columbian said. How do you know the driver of the Eclipse wasnt young and going over the speed limit. HHmm very common in Vancouver. Come on now, think people. Dont believe everything you read from the paper. I just hope everyone is ok.by Dr Who : 12/14/08 5:33pm - Report Abuse
You all should seriously not make asses out of yourselves and not assume what these people were doing. The majority of these people are my family and we really do not appreciate you all making accusations. Thanks.by L. Frances : 12/14/08 5:56pm - Report Abuse
Kirstie..As mentioned before on these blogs, the Columbian seems to attract a high number of idiots who seem to ******* on making inappropriate and hurtful comments. I guess the only thing you can do is to take them for what they are worth...absolutely nothing.by Mary Kelley : 12/14/08 7:03pm - Report Abuse
Well to all you people without the facts, here are some for you. As of today, the WST did say it was the white corolla's fault for not yielding. My nephew was not speeding, or talking on a phone, or whatever else people have to comment about. After the corolla pulled out in front of my nephew (black car), he tried to continue driving, which spun him around into oncoming traffic, then he was hit head on by the red car. Needless to say, I am very thankful that he is alive, as for his other 3 passengers. Please keep your idiotic comments to yourselves. This was not his fault! Maybe if people paid more attention to how and what they are doing when they drive, things like this wouldn't happen.by Bob Smith : 12/14/08 8:05pm - Report Abuse
First of all I am very thankful your nephew did not die, or anyone else. Thats the important thing. Second, of course he is going to say he was not speeding...of course. Being close to this as well, you are going off of what the WST said at the scene of the accident NOT from a police report. Did you get one? No because they are not done with the report. PLUS IT WAS NOT A COROLLA..thats the lame reporter's doing. It was a Honda accord. In the story, where did the 2001 Honda accord go? Great journalism! Also, the witness who saw everything said the black car was coming "like a bat out of hell". But the WST said it was the Corollas fault. Right? Mystery solved.by Linda Schmidt : 12/14/08 8:09pm - Report Abuse
why do people judge before they know the facts?by C. Brown : 12/14/08 8:41pm - Report Abuse
Linda, I think the post by L.Frances answers your question. These people need to get a life and not just sit around judging and pontificating about every incident that shows up in the paper.by living proof : 12/14/08 10:09pm - Report Abuse
hey, i was part of the accident. i was in the red car that got hit out of nowhere. i blame noone and neither should anyone else. its called an accident for a reason. the injuries consisted of leg injuries a sternum injury and a back injury. everyone else was minor injuries as far as i know. im just happy no one died and that should be the only concernby Leslie Brand : 12/15/08 12:25am - Report Abuse
First of all thank God that no one died in this accident and I hope that injuries will heal ,I take my daughter to school at Frontier in that area every am and pick her up every day after and I have seen atleast 6 non serious accidents at the intersection of 162nd and 4th plain , but turning into the school I have seen several near accidents ,people pulling in and out in front of cars trucks etc and this includes school buses .Let the police and ins figure out who's fault it is .They need warning lights or more signs in that area or to lower the speed limit, people aren't considerate of the school kids that have to cross there as well .
