THE COLUMBIAN

The Columbia River boys basketball team finished 2-2 at the Les Schwab Invitational after their 53-47 victory over Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Steven Bjornstad scored 18 points to go with 11 rebounds in the consolation game played at Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Ore.

Zack Bjork scored 17 points and dished out eight assists for the Chieftains, and Kyle Thurston added 10 points.

In the four games, Bjornstad averaged 14.5 points and shot .787 from the field (26 of 33).

Hockinson 53, Skyview 52 — Josh Hall’s basket with 10 seconds to play put the Hawks over the top in the non-league game.

Skyview’s final shot missed at the buzzer.

Hall led all scorers with 31 points, 18 coming in the second half. Paul Walter led Skyview (2-4) with 22 points.

Bismarck, N.D. 54, Prairie 48 — Stephen Madison scored 19 points for the Falcons, but Prairie lost the fourth quarter after being tied through three quarters at the Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyo.

Prairie will play again today against Centennial of Portland. The two teams flew to Wyoming together and took the same bus to Gillette, and now they will face each other before returning to the Northwest.

Evergreen 56, W.F. West 41 — Ryan Dornik scored 17 points, and John Johnson had 15 points and nine rebounds, leading the Plainsmen to another win. Evergreen improved to 5-2 this season.

Ridgefield 57, La Center 30 — Scott Backstrom scored 18 points, and the Spudders held La Center to 11 points in the second half.

Greeneville (Tenn.) 63, Prairie 57 — Angela Gelhar helped spark a 22-2 run in the third quarter, but Prairie ran out of gas, falling to host Greeneville at the Greenback Ladies Classic in Greeneville, Tenn.

Prairie (6-2) was down 17 points at the half, 38-21.

Gelhar scored 11 of her 24 points and had three steals as the Falcons made their run to go up 43-40.

Greeneville recovered to outscore the Falcons 23-14 the rest of the way.

Hockinson 50, Elma 49 — Allison Wrightson’s bucket with five seconds remaining and Michelle Haagen’s defense against Elma’s best player gave the Hawks the one-point win.

Elma’s Katie Colard, “a very phenomenal player,” according to Hockinson coach Natalie Priebe, scored 17 points to lead all scorers.

But Haagen “just stayed in her pocket,” the coach said, and did not allow a good shot at the end of the game.

Daron Dean scored 12 points to lead Hockinson. Lejla Mlivic added 10 for the Hawks, who improved to 7-0.

Elma’s Brandi Thomas had 15 points, 14 rebounds, and seven blocked shots.
