An elderly woman living at a downtown assisted living community was sexually assaulted Saturday morning in her apartment, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

A police bulletin said the woman was assaulted by a man who had entered her apartment at the Evergreen Inn, 500 Main St. She suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center for treatment and a sexual assault exam.

The suspect is described as a light skinned black male, late 20s to early 30s, slender, clean shaven, with short black hair, light colored tan pants, dress shoes, a button-up shirt with collar and a two-tone dark/light colored jacket.

No further information was released, and the investigation is continuing, police said.
