Olympia woman pleads guilty in man's traffic death

Tuesday, February 3 | 10:45 p.m.

A 33-year-old Olympia woman has admitted she caused a July 5 crash that killed a man along U.S. Highway 12 near Oakville.

Michelle L. Rehmert pleaded guilty Monday to vehicular homicide by reckless driving.

She lost control of her car and struck two guardrails before smashing head-on into a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Henry T. Fisher of Oakville.

Grays Harbor County Prosecutor Stew Menefee said Rehmert has past convictions for possession of controlled substances. Court records say investigators believe she was under the influence, and acknowledged using prescription medications in the days leading up to the crash.

Rehmert faces up to five years in prison when she is sentenced March 2. She has already spent six months in the Grays Harbor County Jail.
