Preschool parents can sign up for screenings

Green Mountain School District and the Educational Service District 112 are sponsoring screenings on March 24.

Children ages 3 to 5 will be screened in speech, language, cognitive and motor development. Appointments are required.

PORTLAND

School invites future grads to "gap year fair"

Dynamy Internship Year, in conjunction with Portland's Catlin Gabel School, will sponsor a fair directed at graduating high school students about post-secondary opportunities, such as travel, language immersion, outdoor adventure and community service.

The fair will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the Catlin Gabel School, 8825 S.W. Barnes Road, Portland. For more information, go to dynamy.org.

VANCOUVER

Patron tour will feature Ogden and King schools

Vancouver Public Schools patrons will tour Peter S. Ogden and Martin Luther King, Jr. elementary schools on Feb. 27.

The tour begins at 8:30 a.m. at the school district's Center for Educational Leadership, 2901 Falk Road.

At the tour's conclusion, guests may buy a $4 lunch prepared by culinary arts students.

NORTH BONNEVILLE

Great Electrifying Event set for Bonneville Dam

Interpretive rangers at Bonneville Dam will host their annual Great Electrifying Event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Washington Shore Visitor Center.

The event, geared toward elementary and middle school students, covers the basics of electricity and how it's generated at Bonneville Dam.

Tours inside a powerhouse also will be available, including access on top of two generators and partially inside another.

The Washington Shore Visitor Center is accessible off state Highway 14.

Know women worthy of a distinction award?

Washington State University Vancouver is asking members of the community to nominate women they believe worthy of the 2009 Distinguished Woman of the Year title.

The honor rewards women who inspire, mentor and empower others.

WSU Vancouver officials will announce the award at the Woman of Distinction ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at the Firstenburg Student Commons on campus, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 4.

Nominations are due Feb. 23.
