Bob had many accomplishments in his life -- too many to mention. But it is worth noting that he also stepped in to serve as interim Superintendent in the Evergreen School District during a time of great turmoil and community unrest. He brought his characteristic steady hand and sage perspective to help restore the district's health and standing. Good man. Very good man. Denny Heck

Bob Bates was a caring, generous, special human being who loved good music, gardening in his yard and helping others to succeed.

Some things which I will never forget:
- He was a master of the english language and wrote beautifully.
- the wonderful letter of recommendation which he wrote for my application to dental school will always be appreciated.
- he was always proud of his buick automobiles
- his rose garden was perfection
- he had what looked like a huge collection of record albums from which he made us a very special tape of music every Christmas
- he and Betty would call my Mother and/or drive her to lunch every week after my Dad died. They were special friends to my Mom and Dad.
- Bob Bates always had a smile and was glad to see you and he became friends with our spouses when we started our own families.
- He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and their successes.
-Bob we loved you.
