Airmen return to McChord AFB after 4-months

Thursday, March 5 | 8:45 a.m.

More than 120 airmen from McChord's 8th Airlift Squadron returned early Thursday to the Air Force base after a four-month deployment in support of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

KIRO-TV reports they were greeted just after midnight by hundreds of relatives and friends.

The Air Force says the squadron flew more than 1,200 missions, transported 130,000 passengers and more than 40,000 tons of cargo.

The McChord-based crews flew 13 combat airdrops to resupply remote bases in Afghanistan. Crews also flew five emergency medical evacuations to take 16 critically wounded people to Germany.
