Driver arrested after rollover crash on Lower River Road

Passenger suffered minor injuries

VANCOUVER POLICE INVESTIGATE ROLL OVER ACCIDENT ON LOWER RIVER ROAD

On 4-14-09 at approx. 8:21 pm, Vancouver Police were dispatched to the area of Tidewater Cove (approx. 5200 NW Lower River Road) for a single vehicle roll over accident. When officers arrived, they found one passenger injured. The driver was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. The passenger, 20 year old Alyssa Danley of Vancouver, WA, was taken to SW WA Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. It is believed she will be released before morning.

The driver, 20-year old Alex Goodrich, was arrested by the Vancouver Police Traffic Unit for suspicion of DUI. Goodrich suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

The actual cause of the collision is still under investigation, but alcohol appears to be a contributing factor that led to Goodrich losing control of his vehicle. Vancouver Police report V09-7026.

At least since he's underage he'll lose his license for a while after being convicted. No deferrals for underage drinking and driving.

This is why I don't let my daughter ride in cars with other male idiot teenagers--I don't mind if they kill themselves, but they are NOT taking her to the grave with them if I can help it.

Well, drunk driving isn't a mistake. Its a choice. Everyone knows its wrong and dangerous, blah blah blah. And there needs to be consequences, but why is everone's first impulse to send the guy to jail? It seems counter-productive and uncreative. At least community service keeps this person productive and they serve others as a way of making up for their idiocy. I think as long as a person isn't dangerous, but instead just a moron, warehousing them in a tax-payer funded facility is stupid. Like these dead-beat dads, lets lock 'em up and take away their driver's license! So now who supports their kid?
And PS: I don't drink or have any kids. I plan to start both next year.

Tooth Teller: Yeah, I have. But I guess I look at it in a different way. My cousin is dead. That guy was dumb enuf to drink and drive, but if we send him away for 10 years, how does that solve anything? If instead he does 2000 hours of service, maybe that will help someone. Maybe he'll be too busy doing community service, working and paying taxes that he won't have time to go drinking. Either way, my cousin's not coming back. Your "Jail 'Em All" solution is too simplistic, even tho believe me, prison has its place.

Nice to see a few well thought out comments to help out the seventh graders cutting class to somehow inject a story about them or their family or someone they met that could have been them?? So my comment will be as good as I can do to try and make myself relate to a few very lucky young people that didn't have to know the flavor of a windshield/blacktop sandwich. How about we just removed booze from the equation for everybody that is a licensed driver so that you as one with access to heavy machinery couldn't have the option of ingesting this toxic substance. I have found exponentially more intoxicated drivers upside down in vehicle ( and snoring ) 40 years of age as compared with 20 as the driver suspected in this accident. Knowing also that the most likely cause of serious injury/illness I would suffer on the job will be by my own firearm, would removing that given object provide myself and the public with the most direct improvement to our safety? Life and death decisions, accidents, and mistakes will always be as a result of the judgment(s) we make. However removing these objects, weather it may be a vehicle, a poison, or a firearm will make the judgment just another meaningless decision.

Hello Truth Teller. If you are one who actually answers your own questions, please just make sure you answer yourself correctly. Your half baked question,"when does a drunk driver turn dangerous?" Your half baked answer, was to say they were dangerous as soon as they became a driver. Sounds like the same ignorant lines that the same ignorant attorney's use right before they call their secretary to make sure you were one of their clients actually dumb enough to pay em up front and then you wonder why the Dirt bag keeps calling you Steve even though you are a Joe?? Anyway Joe or Steve or ???? the answer to your self inflicted question ? The drunk driver, well he became a dangerous drunk driver when he decided to do the drugs that made sure he was intoxicated when he actually decided to pretend a vehicle was a 5,000 lb weapon of four-wheel death and destruction.
