Is your basic ranch-style house stuck in the 1960s? Does your craftsman bungalow need a second bathroom?

Ideas for turning your real home into your dream home will abound at the annual Clark County Remodeled Homes Tour this weekend.

Open-air living is the highlight of this year's tour, which will feature Vancouver-based G2 Outdoor Living's exterior remodel and reworked landscaping of a Lake Shore home.

The event will showcase about $1 million worth of work in six remodeling projects, including kitchen makeovers, living rooms and a basement "man cave," said Avaly Mobbs, executive director of the 936-member Building Industry Association of Clark County, the tour's sponsor.

"People should get a number of ideas to incorporate into their own homes and get exposure to our very qualified remodelers," Mobbs said.

For a $15 ticket, eventgoers can tour all homes on display between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at six Vancouver sites.

Besides G2 Outdoor Living, other contractors and homes on display are:

n Detail Construction Service's kitchen, living and dining room makeover of an older Vancouver house.

n Designers Northwest's complete kitchen transformation in a1960-style ranch home. The project expanded the living space and added a separate workshop.

n Fazzolari Custom Homes' exterior updates to a newer Vancouver home and a remodeled basement featuring a functional "man cave."

n Scherer Enterprises' interior renovation of a Fisher's Landing home that upgraded surface materials and fixtures without changing the floor plan.

n Spacemaster Construction's complete remodel of a 1970s condominium that modernized the kitchen, living, bathroom and master bedroom, and converted a second bedroom into an office and sewing room.

Americans spent more than $235 billion on remodeling in 2008, a 1.7 percent increase over the amount spent in 2007, according to the National Association of Home Builders. The figure tallies luxury upgrades as well as home repairs, such as new roofing.

Mobbs estimated that last year's Clark County Remodeled Homes Tour attracted nearly 600 people. She expects the event to attract an even bigger crowd this year.

"A lot of people don't necessarily have the funding to buy their dream home, so they're making changes to their existing homes instead," she said.
