State track: Ojukwu finishes meet

Saturday, May 30 | 4:30 p.m.

Injured Kinsley Ojukwu gave his all at the 3A state track meet.

After aggravating a lingering hip injury in the finals of the 100 meters, Union's Kinsley Ojukwu returns to run in the 400 relay and the 200 meters.
Ojukwu ran the anchor leg in Union's 400 relay, helping  the Titans finish fourth overall.
After a two-hour rest, Ojukwu returns to run the finals of the 200 meters. He looked good coming off the first turn and was running about fourth. But his hip began giving him trouble down the final 100 meters and he faded to finish eighth.
Camas' Chris Hayes, who had to make a U-turn at the bi-district meet last week just to qualify for the state meet in the 200 meters, placed fifth in the 200 final in 22.32 seconds.
It was also a disappointing day for Hockinson's Colton Dunn. The defending 2A state champion in the 200, Dunn finished fourth in the 100 (11.11), second in the 400 (49.52) and third in the 200 (22.17).
Amanda Alvarez placed sixth in the 3A girls long jump, leaving Columbia River with 46.50. But Rainier Beach had 53 points after 15 events, and the Chieftains don't have any more competitors in the field.
