TRACK ROUNDUP: Meyers takes second in high jump at 1A meet

Stevenson’s Lewis Meyers placed second in the high jump on the first day of competition Friday of the Class 1A state track and field championships at Cheney.

Meyers cleared 6 feet, 2 inches for his top mark. Lynden Christian’s Zach Blok won the event at 6-4.

Stevenson’s Kelsey Penner placed fourth in the long jump final at 16-7.

La Center’s Katrina Chamberlain was third in the shot put at 36-5. Also for the Wildcats, Hannah Trigg and Natalia Harris finished sixth and seventh in the pole vault.

Stevenson’s Amanda Stump breezed into the finals of the 100 and 200 meters, placing second in both her preliminary heats. She also advanced to the finals of the 300 hurdles.

Stevenson’s 800 relay team was first in preliminaries. Jen Rathgerber, Sammy Sullivan, Kelsey Penner and Stump posted a time of 1:46.73.

In the 2B meet, Vancouver Christian’s Max Lenoir finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 40-9¾. He also qualified for the 110 hurdles final.

Jamie Kay Christianson of Vancouver Christian was fifth in the javelin at 109-1. Lauren Dameron was third in her heat of the 800 to advance to today’s finals.

In the 1B meet, Gabe Earl of King’s Way finished eighth in the long jump.

All three meets conclude today. There will be 60 track event finals for boys and girls over three classifications and 23 field finals beginning at 9:30 a.m.
