4A TENNIS: Skyview's Andreasen falls short in first trip to state

KENNEWICK — Skyview’s Kent Andreasen fell one win short of placing at the Class 4A Tennis Championships, losing his consolation semifinal to Joseph de la Cruz of Todd Beamer High School, 6-3, 6-1.

Andreasen was the only Vancouver-area player to advance out of day one.

The freshman won two of three matches on Friday.

Kentwood junior Max Manthou won his third consecutive singles title, beating Matt Overland of Kentridge 6-2, 7-6.

Wenatchee’s Clint Vidano and Hudson Barnhart won the boys doubles, beating Newport’s Steven Miyauchi and Zach Chen 7-6, 6-2.

Richland won the boys team title.

Sophomore Meghan Cassens of Decatur won the 4A girls singles title, beating Antonia Liebenow of Lake Stevens 6-1, 6-1.

Cassens was second a year ago.

Kamiakin juniors Demie Warner and Ali Welch pleased the home crowd by winning the girls doubles final, beating Mead’s Britta and Katijene Stime, 6-1, 7-5.

Kamiakin, Decatur and Newport shared the girls team title.
