TACOMA — The Camas girls left no doubt Saturday about their expertise at running the 400 meters.
Megan Kelley finished third in the event at the Class 3A state track and field meet, while Seanna Pitassi finished fifth.
But the icing on the cake came in the 1,600-meter relay, where the Papermakers dominated the field. Camas finished in 3:56.48, while Liberty of Issaquah was second in 3:57.86.
The Papermakers shaved nine seconds off their qualifying time from the bi-district meet.
"Our coaches trained us so we peaked right here, at state, and we won," Pitassi said after running the anchor leg.
Kelley, running the second leg, gave Camas a big lead, which was maintained by Sara Slayton and then Pitassi.
"We worked all year for this," said Dakota Forgey, who ran the leadoff leg. "All year."
