Blazer Banter

Primer for Tuesday's draft workouts

Monday, June 8 | 12:37 p.m.

BY BRIAN HENDRICKSON

The Blazers just released the confirmed list of prospects who will work out at their practice facility tomorrow, and it includes:

Osiris Eldridge
G, Illinois State
6-3, 190 pounds
Projection: Undrafted
Scouting report: Eldridge is among the players who is testing the draft waters, and since he has not hired an agent and looks to be a longshot to get drafted, it's very possible he will pull his name out. Was the Missouri Valley Conference's Freshman of the year and runner-up for Player of the Year as a sophomore — an impressive feat in one of the strongest mid-major conferences. Eldridge took the Redbirds to the conference championship game as a junior before losing in overtime to Northern Iowa.

Wayne Ellington
G, North Carolina
6-4, 190 pounds

Projection: High second-round
Scouting report: Ellington averaged 15.8 points and 4.9 rebounds to play a key role in leading North Carolina to the national championship last season, but those numbers become even more impressive when you consider that Ellington had to share the floor with ACC Player of the Year Ty Lawson and four-time All-American Tyler Hansbrough. He is athletic, with a 38-inch vertical leap, and is a solid perimeter shooter (42 percent) and efficient scorer.

Danny Green
G/F, North Carolina
6-6, 210 pounds

Projection: Mid-second round
Scouting report: Another key to the Tar Heels' championship, Green's 13.1 points and 4.7 rebounds become even more impressive when you consider who he had to share the floor with. He brings good length to the floor -- he has a 6-foot-10 wing span -- but scouting reports list him as only possessing average athleticism and ball-handling skills, which hurts him in pick-and-roll situations. That is something for the Blazers to consider given the number of pick-and-rolls they like to run.

Josh Shipp
G, UCLA
6-5, 200 pounds

Projection: Late second round/undrafted
Scouting report: Shipp is one of those players who doesn't stand out in any one particular area. There are many intangibles to praise -- a good feel for the game, an ability to create offense for himself and others, aggressiveness at both ends of the floor. But he isn't an explosively quick guard, and is only an average athlete.

Damion James
F, Texas
6-7, 225 pounds

Projection: Mid-second round
Scouting report: Jones is a classic NBA tweener, and it would not be surprising to see him return to the Longhorns for his senior season. He has tremendous athleticism and length, with an 8-foot-10 standing reach, 7-foot-1 wingspan and 37-inch vertical leap. But he is undersized for an NBA power forward and has struggled to prove himself to be a true small forward, shooting only 33 percent from the college 3-point line last year and showing sub-par ball-handling skills, inconsistent shooting ability and inability to consistently create his own shot.

Dior Lowhorn
F, San Francisco
6-7, 230 pounds

Projection: Undrafted
Scouting report: Lowhorn is yet another junior who is testing the draft waters and has not hired an agent. Like James, Lowhorn appears to be a tweener. He was most effective offensively in the post for San Francisco, and lacks the explosiveness and athleticism of an NBA wing. HIs perimeter shooting ability improved greatly last season, shooting up from 26 percent as a sophomore to 43 percent as a junior, but he appears to be a long shot at getting drafted this year.
