It isn't a police matter until a body shows up; the police can't stop anyone from doing anything. Want to survive? Protect yourself and your kids the old fashioned way--don't rely on the police for anything as they are merely over paid crime reporters.

Just because some guy can read a newspaper story doesn't mean he's well-informed. It means he has a small subset of the facts, assuming the facts were even properly reported. I'm ever so glad to see that such a brilliant conclusion about the police can be so easily and arrogantly ascertained.

There are not enough facts included in the story to draw a conclusion about the police detectives. In fact, it would be inappropriate for the story to include many more facts - it is most likely a private matter.

Here are a couple possible scenarios . . .

Perhaps the boy lost his jacket, and in an attempt to avoid punishment, told his parents that he lost it while running from a kidnapper.

Perhaps the boy has a long history of making up stories in order to gain attention.

Without enough information to conclude otherwise, I'm going to go ahead and side with the police detectives on this one. I'm sure they are better detectives than any of the commentors here, and they had a much more complete set of facts.

In addition, if the report were simply inconclusive, the school would not have sent out an ammended bulletin.

GUYS, Guys, calm down now! Just because the report was unfounded doesn't mean it didn't happen. It means they just don't have enough evidence to continue investigating. It is secondhand information given to the Columbian by the school district to claim the Clark County Sheriff's Office discovered the luring attempt to be false. Unless we hear otherwise by the Sheriff's Office or by the boy's family, it is still unfounded. If I were a parent at that school, I would take the boy's claim to heart and keep my eyes peeled just to be on the safe side. His parent took it seriously, I would too! There are a lot of creeps out there.

J K: You'd be surprised at what these schools do. Years ago, my daughter was attending elementary school here in Clark County. She witnessed a substitute teacher fondling another girl on her thigh and the same teacher attempted moves on my daughter, then 11 years old. The school district received a formal complaint from the parents and stated they would take care of the matter. We were informed the teacher was fired. Later on, it was discovered this teacher still worked within the same school district and was only fired from that particular temporary position. Don't believe everything you hear from your public schools.

Just to set the record straight... the boy was observed in the act of making a second false report and subsequently admitted that the first was false as well. The two false incidents were separated by about 2 months time hence the time delay.

Mike Cooke: Thank you providing that information. This definitely sheds a different light in the situation. Was the school acting too quickly in notifying the parents in the first place? - hard call.

Anonymous: Maybe I was too quick to judge the outcome and secondhand information from sources of whom I learned not to trust as the years have gone by. If your comment is in any way directed to me, I will tell you this now! I Know 100%, I know all the facts that I do NOT know everything and Know wholeheartedly that not knowing is half the battle, especially when I know the news knows what to write and what not to write to keep us wondering. Who knows? You know?!! Knowingly, I will now stop as I know I have overdone my "knows." (Almost sounds like a song with too many no's in them). :P

3. The incident is investigated.

4. The boy admits it's a hoax.

5. Investigators report their findings.

6. CASE CLOSED...MOVE ON!!

This story just proves that there are a lot of crazies out there that want to prey on our kids.
