The body of a 27-year-old Carson man who was swept away in a fast-moving current of the Wind River last month has been recovered, the Skamania County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday.

Dustin Ferguson's body was found at the mouth of the river just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, more than a mile downstream from where he disappeared, said Sheriff Dave Brown.

Ferguson's brother, who has returned to the river regularly to search for him, found the body near the boat launch in Home Valley and notified deputies.

Ferguson disappeared May 18 while on a fishing trip in the area of Shipherd Falls near Carson with friends. He jumped into the river from a rock and was swept downstream in a very rapid current and most likely drowned, Brown said.

Deputies mounted a search that evening, but didn't find a trace of the man until Wednesday.

Ferguson's body was transported to the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
