A motorist with a previous injury that caused her foot to slip from the brake pedal to the gas pedal on state Highway 14 near Camas on Wednesday ended up with more injuries, to her ribs, police said.

About 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, Bonnie Holtgrew, 45, of Portland was headed east on the highway between Camas and Washougal, according to a bulletin from the Washington State Patrol.

Glen M. Stanfill, 64, of Vancouver, who was driving a 2001 Toyota pickup ahead of Holtgrew, slowed for traffic.

Holtgrew, driving a 1996 Ford Taurus, tried to brake but her foot slipped onto the gas pedal and she accelerated into the rear of the Toyota, the bulletin said.

The impact sent the truck spinning across the westbound lanes until it stopped on the north shoulder.

Both were taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center, treated and released later Wednesday, a hospital employee said.

The crash was caused by excessive speed on Holtgrew’s part and she was ticketed for alleged negligent driving and driving with a suspended license, the bulletin said.

Both vehicles were totaled.
