Garrett Grayson,

Heritage quarterback Garrett Grayson saw his stock rise big-time Saturday at the Eugene Nike Football Training Camp at the University of Oregon.

Grayson, a senior this fall, won the MVP award for his position. Later, he performed well at the Elite 11 workout that followed.

A full report can be found on ESPN.com’s college football recruiting page: http://espn.go.com/college-football/recruiting/index.

Grayson is undecided for his college choice, but interest has picked up because of this weekend’s effort, the ESPN report concludes.

Oliver signs with Northwest University — Kailee Oliver, the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League’s girls basketball player of the year from Skyview, has signed with Northwest University in Kirkland.

Oliver is leaning toward studying elementary education at the NAIA Division II program.

Oliver led Skyview to its first league title as a 4A school this winter.

Rogers stepping down at Heritage — Colby Rogers, a successful head coach in two sports at Heritage High School, has resigned.

Rogers led the Heritage boys to the 2008 Class 4A track and field team title and also coached three consecutive winnings seasons of girls basketball, the first three winning seasons in the program’s history.

Rogers compiled a 22-6 record in two years with the track and field team. He was 57-47 in five seasons with the basketball team. He also was a longtime assistant coach.

"It’s been 13 years. I’m just tired," Rogers said. "I’ll miss working with the kids at Heritage, but this is the best option for me right now."

Yearout shines in all-state series — Columbia River’s Jon Yearout went 2 for 3 with double, run scored and three RBI as Team Baker beat Team St. Helens 13-0 in the consolation game at the All-State Baseball series last weekend in Yakima.

Mychal Harrington of Hudson’s Bay started both games at catcher for Team Adams, which beat Team Rainier 2-1 to capture the championship.

Yearout was joined on the Team Baker roster by Prairie’s Andrew Pagel.

Columbia River’s Dean Breshears was on the Team St. Helens roster. Mountain View’s Cameron Pape was on the Team Rainier roster.

County stars shine in Border Duel — Several area track and field athletes placed high in the Border Duel on June 6, a meet featuring top athletes from Oregon and Washington at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.

Heritage freshman Tee Tee Martin swept the 100 meters and the 200 meters in the girls meet, winning the 100 in 12.36 seconds and 200 in 25.52 seconds.

Jadyn Gourley of Hockinson won the 3,200 (10:39.39) and Megan Kelley of Camas won the long jump at 17 feet, 1/2 inch.

Other top placers among local girls included Kelley in the 400 (third, 59.89), Alyssa Turner of Hudson’s Bay (third, 300 hurdles, 46.26), Jordin Seekins of Washougal (second, javelin, 135-3) and Heidi Greear of Washougal (third, shot put, 37-1/2). The state-champion 400-meter relay team from Camas — Dakota Forgey, Kelley, Sara Slayton and Seanna Pitassi — reunited to place second for Washington in 4:02.91.

On the boys side, Prairie’s Taylor Schmidt won the pole vault at 14-0. Other top placers included Kevin Boyd of Skyview (second, 200, 22.34), Brad Michael of Skyview (second, 400, 50.59) and Marc Jackson of Hudson’s Bay (second, 300 hurdles, 39.52).
