Report: WA mayor didn't seek special treatment

Friday, June 19 | 5:30 a.m.

An ethics report has found that Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels didn't use his position to seek preferential treatment from city transportation crews during the December snowstorms.

The city's Ethics and Elections Commission said in a report Thursday it had received evidence that a top transportation manager ordered special treatment for high-ranking city officials. But there wasn't enough evidence to charge him with ethics violations.

Nickels had asked the commission to investigate whether any city employees had misused their position to dispatch snow plows to certain neighborhoods, including West Seattle where Nickels lives. Icy, snowy streets paralyzed the city for two weeks.

Nickels said Thursday he has never tolerated special treatment and found the allegations disturbing and frustrating.
