I used to work at a different Washougal lumber mill. The whole time I was there, the threat of fire always freaked me out. A lumber mill makes piles and piles of sawdust and other tinder; there's lots of machinery around, and some of it gets very hot, or even throws sparks; and if you're not careful, some of the larger piles of sawdust can actually start composting and generate internal heat.In general, the mills do all they can to mitigate the threat of fire, but it is a very real threat nontheless.
