  • THE REV. JOYCE M. SMITH has received an appointment to serve the Vancouver Community A.M.E. Zion Church, 3605 E. 13th St. Smith has been pastor of Pauline Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Salem, Ore., for the past 20 years. The Rev. Antoinette Rochell, formerly an associate pastor of Community A.M.E. Zion, will become pastor of Pauline Memorial in Salem. The Rev. Robert F. Kemp, formerly the pastor of Community A.M.E. Zion for 25 years, will be the presiding elder of the Cascade District. The appointments took place at the annual session of the Oregon Washington conference at First A.M.E. Zion Church in Portland in mid-June.

  • PIANIST JAMES OAKES will present a concert commemorating the 200th anniversaries of the death of Haydn and birth of Mendelssohn at 7:30 p.m. July 1 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1432 S.W. 13th Ave., Portland.
