Cowlitz County sheriff's rescuers are searching an area of the Lewis River, near 1200 South Pekin Road, in Woodland, according to 911 dispatch. The Clark County Sheriff's Office is assisting.
A call came into Cowlitz County 911 around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night. In a press release, Cowlitz County reported that both a 28-year-old and 23-year-old man were in a canoe when it capsized.
Neither person in the canoe was wearing a life vest.
Last night, the Coast Guard sent a helicopter from the Astoria base and boats. Infrared thermal imaging cameras were used to scan the river and the banks of the river to look for the victim.
The rescue effort involves the following agencies: Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office, Woodland Police, Washington State Patrol, Cowlitz County Dive Team, Cowlitz Fire District 1, Woodland Fire, Clark County Fire and Rescue Station 24, and the Coast Guard.
The Columbian is on the scene and will have more detail as they develop.
