Evergreen High grad and former Eastern Washington standout Greg Peach has earned a roster position in the Canadian Football League for the Edmonton Eskimos.
Peach, who won the 2008 Buck Buchanan Award given to the top defensive player in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, signed with Edmonton in May and began his pro career on June 17 by registering two sacks in a 45-12 preseason win over Saskatchewan.
He added a pair of tackles on June 23 in a 31-19 preseason win over British Columbia.
The Eskimos open the 2009 CFL regular season on Thursday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
NASCAR Sprint Cup driver and Vancouver native Greg Biffle will be on hand at the NASCAR Camping World Bi-Mart Salute to the Troops 125 on July 18 at Portland International Raceway to provide ride alongs and to meet the fans.
Biffle will be at the track from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and available for autographs from noon to 1 p.m.
The weekend will also include the return of NASCAR legend Hershel McGriff, voted one of NASCAR’s top 50 drivers of all time.
Historic NASCAR Cup cars as well as the Portland-based Great American Stockcar Series (GASS) will also be featured.
Weekend ticket packages are $25 when bought in advance either through Portland area Bi-Mart stores or online at www.portlandnascar.com. Tickets bought at Bi-Mart stores include free pit passes while supplies last.
Children under 12 are free with an adult, and active U.S. military personnel are free with a military I.D. card.
The Seattle Seahawks will open their training camp to the public for 14 practices at the team’s lakeside headquarters in Renton during August.
The open practices begin Aug. 3 and conclude Aug. 20.
The protocol for attending the practices begins with online registration on the team’s Web site, which begins at 10 a.m. on July 16. Registration is first come, first served. Practice times and busing schedules will be posted on the Web site.
In addition to the open practices at the team’s Renton headquarters, the Seahawks have scheduled two open practices at University of Washington on Aug. 7 and Aug. 18.
