Hot, dry Washington could make for fiery Fourth

Thursday, July 2 | 11:45 a.m.

The combination of hot, dry weather and a holiday weekend where people shoot off fireworks has raised the fire danger in Washington.

The National Weather Service says temperatures could reach the 90s Friday in Western Washington. Forecasters say the weather should cool off Sunday. That's when the potential for thunderstorms increases in Eastern Washington.

There already have been a number of grass and brush fires across the state, including one still burning Thursday morning on Jetty Island, a man-made island near Everett at the mouth of the Snohomish River.

Fireworks are suspected of starting some fires, including one Wednesday that caused $2 million damage to a house near Clearview in Snohomish County.
