Camas' Jones in Junior Amateur final

Camas’ Blake Jones survived the heat and two opponents Thursday to reach the final of the Oregon Junior Amateur golf championship at Oswego Lake Country Club in Lake Oswego, Ore.

Jones, playing in the junior (age 16-17) division, won his quarterfinal match in the morning. He defeated Beaverton’s Steven DaSilva 3 and 1.

In the heat of the afternoon, Jones defeated Tye Gabriel on the final hole to earn a spot in today’s championship. Gabriel had advanced with a 4 and 3 quarterfinal victory over Vancouver’s Nathan Ferrell.

Jones will play Samuel Mendez of Portland for the title today beginning at 10 a.m.

Timbers win exhibition, 2-0

Visser recorded five saves to pick up his first shutout, midfielders Alex Nimo and Shaun Higgins each logged assists and Jallow scored the insurance goal to lead the Timbers to the exhibition victory. Portland guest player Kevin Forrest, a native of Edmonds, Wash., also tallied a goal.
