Normally our weather turns hot after the Fourth of July but this year the forecast charts show a low currently spinning off the coast to park itself over the Pacific Northwest for most of the coming week. Which means highs closer to normal or below — mostly in the 70s somewhere. Of course, this year so far has been anything but normal.
I had mentioned a few columns ago that my prediction for July was for some ups and down in the temperatures and it appears it’s off and running in that direction. We’ll see if we get any showers out of this. Right now most should stay over the mountains but we could see something develop on the plains. A nice heavy shower or two would be most welcomed, I’m sure.
Before we get too far along, I’ll share what rainfall reports I have received so far for June. I recorded 0.96 of an inch here in north Salmon Creek; Pearson Field, Vancouver, 1.07 inches; Gary Collins, Brush Prairie, 2.80 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 0.72 of an inch; Tyler Mode, Minnehaha, 0.67 of an inch; Bud Maddux, Home Valley, 0.35 of an inch; Pete Conrad, Tukes Mountain, Battle Ground, 0.87 of an inch; Jim Knoll, Orchards, 1.35 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 1.17 inches; Phil Delany, above Dole Valley, 1.70 inches; Irv St. Germain, SW Prune Hill, 1.52 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 0.90 of an inch; Dan Hein, Camas, 1.45 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 1.80 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 0.67 of an inch; Nancy Ellifrit, Mt. Vista, 1.23 inches; Phil Harris, Washougal, 1.51 inches; and Merle Moore, two miles west of Yacolt, 0.92 inch.

Weather heading into the 70's and they call for sweaters? Who ARE these anemic people! Maybe - MAYBE - if they were talking 40's. I'm just glad the heat stroke - I mean heat wave - is over. Now if only the rain will return for a few weeks.
