$40,000 bonus for Seattle City Light exec

Wednesday, July 8 | 2:30 p.m.

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels gave the city's highest-paid executive the maximum $40,000 bonus this year.

The head of City Light, Jorge Carrasco (HOR'-hay car-AHS'-koh), will make $224,000 this year. A spokesman for the mayor, Alex Fryer, told The Seattle Times the salary is justified to keep a key employee and is less than the amount paid to people who lead utilities in Snohomish, Chelan and Grant counties.

A challenger for the mayor's job, City Council member Jan Drago (DRAW'-go), told KOMO-TV this is no time to be awarding bonuses to city employees who are already highly paid.
