Wash Lottery sales down from last year's record

Saturday, July 11 | 3:30 a.m.

The recession has taken a bite out of sales for Washington Lottery games.

Lottery spokeswoman Jacque (JACK'-ie) Coe says preliminary figures for the fiscal year that ended June 30 show total sales of $487.7 million, about 6 percent less than the $521.1 million in sales for fiscal year 2008.

Coe says people are being more careful with their money and realize that Lottery games aren't a sure thing. But she notes that 2008 was a record year for Lottery sales, boosted by the new Raffle game and by several large Mega Millions jackpots.
