Bagley Downs — After the death of community activist Edward “Lee” McCallister on June 20, members of the Fruit Valley Neighborhood Association wanted to do something to honor his legacy.

They decided to challenge other neighborhood associations and residents to donate money to Neighbors on Watch, a neighborhood watch program. McCallister was a big proponent of community safety, and his wife, Karen McCallister, has been involved with the program for many years.

The Fruit Valley Neighborhood Association kicked things off with a $500 donation, and on Aug. 3, Karen McCallister presented the Vancouver Police Department with a check for $1,400 to the Neighbors on Watch program.
