7:30 p.m. Nov. 13, The Old Church, 1422 S.W. 11th Ave., Portland. The first concert in the 2012-13 Live & Local chamber music series. The three-part series is produced in partnership with All Classical 89.9 FM and 45th Parallel. Octetlandia starts the program off, featuring the Arnica Quartet and the 45th Parallel Quartet performing relatively unknown but masterful string octets of Max Bruch and Dmitri Shostakovich. The concert concludes with Felix Mendelssohn's Octet, the astonishingly vibrant masterpiece widely considered to be one of the greatest works of chamber music ever written. Mendelssohn composed it when he was just 16 years old.
