Weather Eye: Another nice day, then what, snow?

I think we have clearly established that winter is upon us, with overnight lows Wednesday morning dipping into mid-20s in wind-sheltered areas.

The official Vancouver low was 27 degrees, while I had 25 degrees in north Salmon Creek. In locations with strong, gusty easterly winds, temperatures were much more pleasant into the mid 30s. But, of course, the wind chills made it feel even colder than the calm areas where it was some 10 degrees colder. Bottom line: It was chilly!

OK, where do we go from here? Another nice sunny day is on tap for today before a weak weather front drops southward from British Columbia on Friday.

So, increasing clouds Friday with a chance of showers (snow/rain), although whatever falls will be on the light side as weather systems this time of the year dropping down from the north carry little moisture.

Plus whatever moisture occurs must fall through some very dry air brought in by those east winds.

There is, of course, the chance of snow down to city levels depending on the amount of moisture and continued low dew points. The main effect will be even colder air over the weekend, and the east winds will continue their infiltration over the region, pooling a sizeable dome of cold, dry air overhead.

In the extended time frame, details become a bit fuzzy, but it does appear remnants of an old typhoon will surge moisture into the West Coast mainly to our south, and could cause a local brief, heavy snow/ice event by midweek.

Let’s see, déjà vu from last December? Stay tuned and bundle up!
