Area soccer teams reach championships

Spudders, Cheetahs, Thunder, Huskies playing for Cup titles

Four teams from Southwest Washington will play for championships when the state tournament for recreation-level youth soccer concludes this week.

The local finalists are the Lewis River Spudders (boys under age 11), the Camas-Washougal Cheetahs (boys under 13), the Vancouver United Thunder (boys under 14), and the West Side Huskies (girls under 16).

Those four teams advanced through elimination play Saturday and Sunday, which concluded with semifinal matches.

The Washington Youth Soccer Presidents Cup finals will be played Dec. 12-13 at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

The Lewis River Spudders outscored their four opponents 16-4 over the elimination weekend, including a 3-1 win in their semifinal match. They play for the championship at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Players for the boys U-11 finalists are Brock Castleberry, Travis Gottsch, Brittan Gullickson, Grant Jefferies, Brady Lewis, Ryan McGuckin, Jacob McLaughlin, Noah Miller, Jason Osborn, Drew Williams, and Jalen Williams.

The Camas-Washougal Cheetahs play at 11 a.m. Saturday for the boys U-13 championship. The VUSA Thunder play at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday for the boys U-14 title. Rosters for those teams were not available.

In the girls U-16 division, the West Side Huskies play at 11 a.m. on Sunday. In the two-day qualifying tournament at Burlington, the Huskies went 3-0-1, including a 3-1 win over a team from North Bend in Sunday’s semifinals.

The Huskies’ roster includes: Alida Baudoin, Hannah Bucklin, Grace Demsky, Michelle Fantazia, Delaney Godwin, Trisha Horenstein, JoHannah Joy, Sara Kitali, Anna McCallum, Caitlin McRae, Alex Onslow, Hannah Sound, Robyn Thum, Tegan Walkins, Ann Wittenburg. Their coaches are Julie Walkins, R.J. Walkins, and Steve Sttrylewicz.

Local teams that lost in the President Cup semifinals included five boys teams: the VUSA Storm and the VUSA Regulators (both under-19), the Battle Ground Jets (under 18), the VUSA Jets (under 17) and the Camas-Washougal Rockets (under 16).
