A portion of Northeast 78th Street was closed early this morning after a fire broke out inside an abandoned building.

The fully involved fire was reported just before 5 a.m. inside a building at Northeast 78th Street and 13th Avenue known to be frequented by transients.

No one was hurt, according to a news bulletin from Clark County Fire District 6.

Northeast 78th Street was closed between Highway 99 and 29th Avenue. It reopened at about 7 a.m.

Fire investigators say the cause of the blaze is undetermined. Because of the extensive fire damage, the home will be knocked down by a Clark County Public Works crew.

The fire site is close to where a 13-year-old girl, Alycia Nipp, was killed in February by a homeless transient known to squat in a nearby abandoned home. Firefighters burned several buildings in the area after the county deemed them a public safety hazard.
