Charles N. Moore, who was killed in a robbery at his home in Vancouver’s West Minnehaha neighborhood Sunday night, died of a shotgun blast to his chest, officials said Tuesday.

The death has been formally ruled a homicide, according to a bulletin from Clark County Medical Examiner Dr. Dennis Wickham.

Moore, 46, died at the scene of the shooting at his home in the 5300 block of Northeast St. James Road, Vancouver police said.

Police on Tuesday declined to reveal what the robbers were seeking, but said the crime isn’t believed to have been random.

Officers were dispatched to the residence just before 11 p.m. Sunday.

Dispatch reports indicated there was an armed robbery and shots had been fired.

Arriving officers found Moore unconscious. He appeared to have suffered at least one gunshot wound, police said.

Investigators with the police Major Crimes Unit worked through Sunday night and Monday, and continue to seek clues leading to the suspects, said police spokeswoman Kim Kapp.

As of Tuesday night, detectives had identified no suspects and reported no arrests.

Detectives are asking neighbors and others who were in the area at the time of the shooting — and who may have seen someone running, a possible escape vehicle or other suspicious activity — to call them.

Those with immediate information can call 911.

The tip line is 360-487-7399. Callers can leave messages there 24/7, and can remain anonymous, if desired. During business hours, call west precinct at 360-487-7355 or east precinct at 360-487-7500.
