The Vancouver Police Department’s Safe Streets Task Force is asking the public’s help locating a man suspected of assaulting a resident during a robbery attempt last week.

Police are searching for Miguel Andrew Torres-Izazaga, 19, a known gang member from the Beaverton area with ties to Vancouver. Torres-Izazaga has warrants outstanding on charges of second-degree attempted murder and robbery.

The victim, who was assaulted inside his home in the 4200 block of E. 18th Street, asked not to be identified citing fear of retribution. He was treated for serious injuries and has since been released, according to a press release.

Torres-Izazaga allegedly went to the victim’s apartment Dec. 14 to buy marijuana, according to court documents. His objective shifted once inside the apartment, where he allegedly beat the victim with a pipe or small.

Court documents say the victim “begged him to stop during a prolonged attack.”

Police say the apartment was covered in blood.

Doctors at an area hospital say the victim had multiple cuts to his head that, without treatment, could have been fatal. He also had a broken left wrist and a broken right hand.

Authorities say gang-affiliation played a role in the attack.

The assault follows a Dec. 1 fatal shooting outside a convenience store in Rose Village authorities also said was gang and drug-related.

Anyone with information on Torres-Izazaga’s location is asked to contact Sgt Tim Huberty of the Safe Streets Task Force at 360-487-7428 or by email tim.huberty@ci.vancouver.wa.us.

Bob Albrecht: 360-735-4522 or bob.albrecht@columbian.com.
