OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has upgraded the burn ban in Pierce County to a Stage 2 ban. The Stage 1 bans in Snohomish and Kitsap counties remain in effect.

A strong high-pressure system is expected to dominate the Puget Sound area at least through Saturday.

This weather condition is expected to create stagnant air conditions over many parts of the three counties.

In a Stage 1 burn ban, burning in uncertified wood stoves is prohibited except in homes where it is the only adequate source of heat.

In a Stage 2 ban, no burning is allowed in any wood-burning fireplaces, wood stoves, pellet stoves or fireplace inserts — EPA certified or uncertified — unless it is a home’s only adequate source of heat.
