PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Death row inmate Cesar Barone has died.
Department of Corrections spokeswoman Michelle Whitney Dodson says the 49-year-old serial killer died of natural causes Thursday afternoon in the Oregon State Penitentiary infirmary in Salem.
Barone had been awaiting execution since 1995 for the murder of Martha Bryant, a nurse-midwife who was shot to death after her car was run off the road near Hillsboro.
He received the death penalty twice more and an additional 89-year prison sentence for killing three other Oregon women in the early 1990s.
