YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — More than 1,200 people visited Yellowstone National Park over the first six days of the park’s winter season.

Opening day was Dec. 16. Park officials say that over the next six days, 1,279 people entered the park. Of those, 755 people were on snowmobiles and 524 were on snow coaches.

Wyoming is suing over a temporary snowmobile plan in Yellowstone. The state says federal officials ignored science and violated the National Environmental Policy Act when they lowered the number of machines allowed in the park to 318 a day.
