SEATTLE (AP) — The King County prosecutor has until June 15 to decide whether to pursue the death penalty in its case against the man accused of killing Seattle police officer Timothy Brenton.
Defense attorneys for Christopher Monfort requested the delay, to give them more time to prepare in opposition to the death penalty.
The decision came Tuesday morning during a hearing.
Momfort is charged with killing Brenton and wounding his partner Britt Sweeney on Halloween night.
He has been charged with one count of aggravated murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson. The arson charge and one of the counts of attempted murder stem from the Oct. 22 firebombing of four Seattle police vehicles at a city maintenance yard.
