A Washougal man was arrested for alleged DUI on Monday after a rearender crash on state Highway 14 just west of Southeast 164th Avenue.

Chris J. Mallars, 46, was arrested for alleged impaired driving and driving too fast for road conditions, according to a bulletin from the Washington State Patrol. Mallars then was ticketed and released, said Trooper A. Liksakov.

About 5:35 p.m. Monday, Mallars was driving a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse west, behind a westbound 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Marco A. Navarro-Valasquez, 25, of Woodburn, Ore.

When the Chevrolet driver slowed for traffic, Mallars crashed into its rear, the bulletin said.

Mallars was not reported injured. Navarro-Valasquez suffered lower back pain and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, the bulletin said. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

The crash was caused by speed too fast for conditions, the bulletin said.
