PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A winter storm snarled traffic in the greater Portland metro area, and was spreading snow across much of the rest of Oregon as well.

Traffic moved at a crawl through downtown Portland and its suburbs during Tuesday’s evening rush hour. Some cars were unable to make it up slick hills. Buses were delayed.

The National Weather Service predicted as much as 4 inches of snow could fall in the northern Willamette Valley before the precipitation changes to rain.

The Columbia Gorge was expected to get as much as 6 inches of snow. Snowfall could total 3 to 5 inches east of the Cascade Range in southern Oregon and a couple of inches to the west.
