Friends of Trees will hold three Saturday morning tree plantings in Vancouver early in 2010 and is looking for volunteers.

The nonprofit, volunteer-driven agency will plant tree in the following neighborhoods on the following dates:

o Jan. 16 in east Vancouver: Airport Green, Hearthwood, Image, North Image, Landover-Sharmel, Parkside and Parkway East.

o Feb. 27 in west Vancouver: Arnada, Carter Park, Central Park, Hough, Lincoln, Hudson’s Bay, Rose Village, Shumway, Edgewood Park, Harney Heights and Northwest.

o March 20 in central Vancouver: Burton Ridge, Fircrest, Marrion, Oakbrook and Ogden.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Jesse at 360-619-1127 or neighborhood.trees@ci.vancouver.wa.us.

Working with Vancouver’s Urban Forestry program, Friends of Trees offers street and yard trees to local residents at less than one-fourth of the actual $195 cost of a tree, along with planting and assistance. Since 1989, the group has planted more than 375,000 trees and native plants in the Portland-Vancouver area. Visit www.friendsoftrees.org.
