HUNTINGTON, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has approved a proposal to install six wind turbines on land north of Huntington.

Randy Joseph applied for a permit for the Lime Wind Project in June 2007. He is chairman of the Baker County planning commission and its renewable energy committee. He says the turbines could be in place by October.

The Lime project would be the first wind farm in Baker County, and the first such development built on BLM land in Oregon.

The $5 million wind farm is expected to produce enough electricity to power about 800 homes.

The electricity will be sold to Idaho Power Co.
