She allegedly tried to run over husband

A Vancouver woman made her first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Thursday morning on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly trying to run her husband over with her minivan.

Debron M. Broughton, 40, was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly trying to run over her husband twice and then following his car when he tried to get away, ramming it several times.

Her husband, James Broughton Sr., called 911 and said his estranged wife was apparently upset because she saw him with another woman, according to 911 reports.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said she couldn’t confirm that as a motive, but said the couple was estranged and there was a no-contact order.

On Thursday, Superior Court Judge John Wulle set bail at $75,000 and appointed attorney David Kurtz to represent Debron Broughton.

Arraignment was set for Nov. 18.

According to an affidavit by the Vancouver Police Department, Debron Broughton was driving around town, looking for her husband. She found him at a 76 Station on St. James Road and pulled in, attempting to strike him as he was standing outside his Mustang and pumping gas. The incident occurred at about 9:10 a.m.

He jumped out of the way, but witnesses said Broughton’s vehicle came within 1 or 2 inches from him, the affidavit said.

James Broughton then jumped in his vehicle to pull out of the parking lot, when Debron Broughton allegedly rammed his passenger side door.

He drove off and she followed. When he was stopped at a red light at the St. James Road and Minnehaha Street intersection, Debron Broughton allegedly rammed his Mustang again, according to the affidavit.

When James Broughton pulled into the parking lot of Sunny’s Market, 3303 N.E. Minnehaha St., to survey the damage, Debron Broughton allegedly tried to run him over again. He jumped out of the way.

James Broughton was not injured, Kapp said.

Debron Broughton drove off, and sheriff’s deputies questioned and arrested her at her home in the 6300 block of Northeast 58th Avenue. She was arrested for suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault.
