Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council.

n Washington Elementary School would like to find monitors to help with the “Walking School Bus” program. Two adults will walk a route, picking up students on the way to school, ensuring their safety. The routes take 20 to 30 minutes to walk, rain or shine.

n Wellness For American Warriors seeks a volunteer to help with researching and grant proposal writing. Work can be done from home or at the downtown Vancouver office.

n Neighbors Helping Neighbors seeks help at their food bank, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays. Help is needed assembling food boxes, in the kitchen, signing in clients, and sorting food and clothing donations.

n Quilting for Kids can use help, 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays, making quilts, pillowcases, wall hangings and place mats for foster kids and their foster families. Some work can be done from home.

n Furnishings for Families in Need seeks two volunteers with a truck or van to move furniture on an on-call basis.

n Rocksolid Community Teen Center seeks a volunteer to plan and implement a cooking program for students, with healthful options for snacks and meals.

n Salvation Army/Stop Hunger Warehouse is looking for volunteers to ride along or drive a box truck, picking up food from area stores. No commercial drivers’ license is required. Volunteers work in teams of two. Help is also needed sorting, weighing and packing products and sanitizing the equipment.

n Silver Buckle Ranch in Brush Prairie is looking for volunteers to care for horses; help with maintenance on the ranch and in the office; and with special events.

Columbia Springs seeks help removing invasive weeds from the forest floor on “Stewardship Saturday,” 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 14, at 13308 S.E. Evergreen Highway, Vancouver.

Volunteers should wear long sleeves and pants, and sturdy shoes or boots.

Snacks will be provided.
