Time is now running short to take in two exhibits at the Clark County Historical Museum and to take advantage of some discounts. The museum’s “Boomer!” exhibit, which opened in June 2008, wraps up Dec. 31. The exhibit explores the baby boom generation nationally and in Clark County. It explores the fashion, toys, cars and music of that generation.

Also on display through Dec. 31 is “Catharine Paine Blaine: Seneca Falls and the Women’s Rights Movement in the State of Washington.” The exhibit celebrates the 2010 Washington Women’s Suffrage Centennial through an exploration of the effect of settlers’ reform ideas on the development of women’s rights in Washington.

The museum is also offering discounts to celebrate a pair of milestones. Visitors who are 100 years old or 45 years old receive free admission with proof of age through the end of the year. The museum’s building, a former Carnegie Library, turns 100 this year. In addition, 45-year-olds receive free admission because the museum is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Where: 1511 Main St., Vancouver.

Admission: $4; $3 for seniors and college students with identification; $2 for children 6 to 18; free for children 5 and younger. Free admission for visitors who are 100 years old or 45 years old, with proof of age, throughout 2009.

Telephone: 360-993-5679.

The Clark County Historical Museum isn’t the only source of entertainment this weekend. Visitors can step back in time at Fort Vancouver tonight, get into the spirit of the season with a holiday concert, take in a puppet production or watch the release of the latest film in the “Twilight” series.

  1. History lessons offered by lantern light

Visitors can tour Fort Vancouver and learn what life was like after dark in the 1800s. Each adult attending the tour can carry their own lantern and tour, with a park ranger, the counting house, fur store, kitchen, chief factor’s house and the bake house. Visitors will learn about what activities took place after dark at the fort and what it was like to live by lantern light. Following the tour, visitors can enjoy a cup of cider and ask questions about the fort.

When: 7-8 tonight, Dec. 5 and 19.

Where: Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, 1001 E. Fifth St., Vancouver.

Admission: $10, $7 for children 15 and younger. Reservations are required.

  1. Trans-Siberian Orchestra launches holiday season with concert

Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the 60-piece rock orchestra, performs a variety of holiday songs this weekend in Portland.

The group formed in 1996 and has since become a popular touring act, thanks in part to its pyrotechnics, and elaborate lighting and special effects.

Fans should expect to hear a mix of holiday songs from the group’s albums, as well as nonholiday work.

When: 3 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Where: Rose Garden arena, 1 Center Court, Portland.

  1. Puppet production brings classic tale to life

A miller’s daughter manages to spin straw into gold in “Rumpelstiltskin,” the latest puppet production from Vancouver-based Tears of Joy Theatre. She accomplishes the feat with help from a dwarf who claims her firstborn child as payment for his help. She marries a king, and the dwarf returns for their first child. To keep the baby, the new queen must figure out the mysterious dwarf’s real name.

Puppet-making activities will be available before all performances.

When: 11 a.m. today and Nov. 28; and 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday and Nov. 29.

Where: Dolores Winningstad Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway, Portland.
